There is no question about it: This is a very frightening time in the world. The COVID-19 pandemic has circled the globe many times ever, infecting millions and killing tens of thousands – and both numbers are very likely to increase before the pandemic finally burns itself out.
As a result of COVID-19, many people are turning to alternative forms of treatment and prevention, like CBD. To be as clear as possible, there is no research that indicates that CBD can help prevent or treat COVID-19. However, there is some preliminary evidence that shows how CBD can help you manage the vastly increased stress caused by this pandemic, help you sleep better and help ease your mind during these incredibly troubled times.
In addition, much of the world has come together to help others who are fighting this disaster or dealing with its after-effects. SUPA Naturals is no different, and we’re proud of how we’re trying to help our customers deal with this disaster.
CBD works by altering the functioning of your body’s Endocannabinoid System. Everyone has an Endocannabinoid System (or ECS), and the function of your ECS is to keep your body operating in a state of homeostasis. In other words, it keeps a variety of bodily functions (pain, appetite, stress, inflammation and more) operating within normal parameters.
So, why does this matter as it pertains to COVID-19? Well, there’s good news and bad news. First, the bad news: There is no evidence that CBD can directly prevent someone from being infected with COVID-19. Likewise, there is no evidence to suggest that CBD can treat COVID-19.
But, there’s good news, too: There is no evidence to suggest that CBD makes your symptoms or suffering worse if you are infected, and people who take CBD should be able to continue to do so during this outbreak. This is important because, as the below will demonstrate, CBD may be able to help people manage some of the more frightening aspects of the outbreak by helping you sleep better and reducing your anxiety levels. There is also some evidence to suggest that CBD can manage internal inflammation, something which has been tied to certain facets of your immune system.
Unfortunately, as noted by the experts, many people are, quite literally, losing sleep over this outbreak. There are many reasons for this, including fear of the virus in general, as well as a deep-seated concern over what COVID is doing to the world’s economy. Additionally, all of us have had our daily routines disrupted, making it harder to work, exercise, socialize and more.
Here’s an area where some evidence suggests that CBD can be helpful. The Internet is replete with stories about people who found that CBD was able to help them get a better night’s sleep, and there is some evidence to back up that idea : A 2017 review found that CBD and THC may have therapeutic properties when it comes to helping people get a better night’s sleep. A 2019 case series study found similar results, with people who took CBD getting a better night’s sleep and reported lower anxiety levels.
Furthermore, some evidence suggests that CBD can help individuals control pain. Pain issues are one of the more common reasons that people have trouble sleeping, and if people can control their pain levels, odds are good that they can sleep better.
More study is needed, but a variety of evidence does show that CBD can help people sleep better. During these very difficult times, that is very important. Furthermore, unlike other sleep medications, CBD is non-addictive, has no potential for abuse and manageable side effects.
One of the areas that individuals have found the most use for CBD has been in reducing stress and anxiety levels. During these exceptionally stressful times, this can be very important and helpful.
It does seem very possible that CBD has anti-anxiety effects. One study found that CBD may help to lower people’s anxiety by lowering the body’s own fight-or-flight response, a mechanism that ratchets up your body’s anxiety levels. A 2015 scientific review of the subject provided an overview of CBD and found that available evidence suggests CBD has an anti-anxiety effect on the body.
Specific studies on the subject have actually found that CBD can reduce many specific types of anxiety, including Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, social anxiety, and performance anxiety.
More evidence is needed before anyone can draw any firm conclusions about how CBD can help your immune system. There is a relative paucity of research on this subject, although there is a possible link between CBD, THC and anti-inflammatory effects.
That link is important.Inflammation is common when there is an injury or illness, and a wide array of evidence has shown that CBD seems to have anti-inflammatory properties. This has been found in studies of both rats and humans, and this is one of the many reasons that so many athletes have turned to CBD to help control pain and help them recover from a game or tough workout.
If CBD can truly control inflammation, it means that CBD may be able to address one of the key aspects of your body’s immune system.
